Program clarity

Choosing a program by need, not by length

Program length is the easiest thing to compare and the least useful thing to decide on. What actually determines the right starting point is how the body responds when use stops, whether home is a workable place to recover in, how many attempts have already been made, and what other health or mental health issues are in play. Programs are designed to step down rather than end abruptly — closer supervision first, then a lighter structure, then periodic contact — so the initial choice sets the intensity, not the whole path. If the first arrangement turns out to be too light or too restrictive, it can be changed without starting again.
